Christmas- its story, its spirit, its nostalgia- has the unique ability to move and inspire us. It is the influence behind momentary, unnoticed acts of kindness, as well as timeless masterpieces of art and literature. The theater, motion pictures and television have especially benefited from this inspiration, having entertained us over the years with a wealth of images that have become part of our yuletide celebrations. After all, what would our holiday season be without the Nutcracker, Ebenezer Scrooge or the Grinch? Accompanying each of these visual images is music, and it is this music which stirs warm memories of Christmases past, and that we find ourselves humming each December. This recording presents some of the best holiday music from the past 100 years of stage and screen.
