Notes & Reviews:
American Record Guide, July / August 2012
There is also a set of Concert Variations that would give you a complete collection of Mendelssohn's cello works. That would have fit on this disc, but they don't play it. Still, this is a musically satisfying rendition, complete with the repeat of Sonata 1's exposition in I. I enjoyed this interpretation. It is played with warmth and lyricism. There could be more excitement, but this is a musical concept that makes a friendly and satisfying impression, recorded with rich sound. The players are originally from Hungary and Japan, and the blend is good.
