Notes & Reviews:
His fame as a composer rests almost solely if not only on this superb work, and its lead soprano role is here taken by one of its greatest interpreters. Riccardo Zandonai's 1914 opera Francesca da Rimini, a work of love, plotting, betrayal and ultimately (double!) murder, is offered here in a 1961 live performance from Trieste, Italy starring the greatest Turkish soprano of the 20th c., Leyla Gencer as Francesca. A gifted coloratura singer, on her best nights (as many surviving live recordings confirm, including this one), her impact was great indeed. Remastered in 24 bit/96kHz sound.Notes & Reviews:
