Notes & Reviews:

Exploring the byways of Chopin's work reveals gems such as the elegant Rondeau for two pianos, and the Variations for flute and piano on a theme by Rossini then at the height of his popularity. The substantial Piano Trio Op. 8, dedicated to the cello-playing Prince Antoni Radziwill of Poznan, is a work in which Chopin allowed his Polish patriotism to be heard. Of the Kungsbacka Piano Trio The Strad asked "is there a better Trio ensemble in Western Europe?" The Kungsbacka Piano Trio takes its name from the Swedish town in which it gave its first performance and where it has established an annual festival. Winner of First Prize in the Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition, it has since appeared at numerous festivals and venues throughout Europe, North and South America, Australia and New Zealand.

American Record Guide
The variations for flute and piano on 'Non piu mesta' from Rossini's Cenerentola is important...because it is a lovely work in its own right, played beautifully by Beynon and Simon Crawford-Phillips from the Kungsbacka Trio. He joins Moore in the Rondeau for two pianos, Op. 73... and plays the Valse and the Mazurka, both works the composer didn't give an opus number. This is a pleasant program recorded with a rich smoothness and played convincingly.

BBC Music Magazine
It isn't easy to find rarities from a composer who has been as microscopically investigated as Chopin, but apparently it's still possible. This CD opens with an enchanting 1828 Rondo for two pianos, written when Chopin was 18. It proves a fresh and joyous discovery, treated with plenty of TLC by the engaging duo of Simon Crawford-Philips and Philip Moore.

BBC Music Magazine
This CD opens with an enchanting, 1828 Rondo...it proves a fresh and joyous discovery, treated with plenty of TLC by the engaging duo of Simon Crawford-Phillips and Philip Moore...The Kungsbacka Trio balance the three instruments with care [in Op. 8], and they apply a good sense of early Romantic-period ethos, involving gentle string tone and plenty of portamentos.
