Notes & Reviews:
A collection of recordings taken from the legendary Capriccio Archive joins some of the world's leading singers together and presents a broad repertoire of known and unknown songs for orchestra. Renowned conductors including Eschenbach, Albrecht and Bertini guarantee the quality of the artistic realisation of these complex scores.
American Record Guide
Thomas Quasthoff, baritone, sings a wonderful performance of Mahler's Wayfarer Songs with the Cologne Radio Orchestra and Gary Bertini... Mitsuko Shirai, mezzo, sings decent performances of four orchestral songs of Wolf with the Berlin Radio Orchestra and David Shallon... The chief reasons to consider purchasing are (1) mostly very good performances, (2) mostly very good singers, and above all (3) a great chance to discover some less familiar music that is hard to find anywhere else and makes for rewarding listening... this is worth hearing.
BBC Music Magazine
A flavoursome two-disc compliation garnering the distinctive character of these singers, often in less familiar and fascinating repertoire.
