Conductor Ensemble Composers

Notes & Reviews:

The new CD of Danilevski and his Ensemble Syntagma presents some of the most elaborate works of the mediaeval musica composita by Bardolino da Padova and contemporaries. On the program there is the image of sounds such as the break of day, dawn, twilight and symbolic images such as rose and stinging-neetle.

Allmusic.com
The basic sound of the music is sweet, and when percussion is deployed in dance pieces it's quiet. There's nothing to put off anyone who likes the sound of medieval music here, and there's an X factor working in the album's favor: you get the feeling that the program would have appealed to medieval listeners themselves.

American Record Guide
Three singers (countertenor and two sopranos) complete the performing forces in this balanced program of eight vocal and eight instrumental interpretations. The players are certainly accomplished, and the ensemble is tight and well matched for pulse and flow. Rhythms and polyphony are very well executed, and the vocal trio is particularly fine.
