Notes & Reviews:

The Amsterdam Sinfonietta is an ensemble of twenty-two gifted musicians who perform under the direction of Candida Thompson, the group's artistic director since 2003. The ensemble's defining feature is the strong involvement and artistic drive of each individual member. This disc focuses on music that demonstrates Mahler's ability to weave the natural intimacy of chamber music into the fabric of an orchestral texture. A fascinating transcription of one of Beethoven's late quartets is paired with two of Mahler's most famous slow movements, from the fi fth and tenth symphonies.
