Notes & Reviews:

Cellist Zuill Bailey has teamed up with Jun Markl and the Indianapolis Symphony for a beautifully performed and recorded execution of the Dvorak Cello Concerto. A serious work for any cellist, Zuill performs passionately but with precision. He is truly one of the hardest working people in classical music today with a tour schedule that is more reminiscent of a road-dog rock star than a classical musician.

"His playing was consistently well-focused to emphasize the intimacy of the solo role. The lyrical writing prominent in all three movements was sustained with deep feeling, and its virtuoso contrasts -- the rapid figuration, delicately patterned string-crossings, treacherous sliding double stops and crystalline trills -- shone without sounding effortful. Guest conductor Jun Märkl fashioned a stirring accompaniment for Bailey, fiery in full-orchestra passages where the soloist is silent, but always colorful and supportive when the easily covered cello needs to be heard" -The Indianapolis Star

Gramophone Magazine
This wonderfully spontaneous new version by Zuill Bailey and Jun Markl tends to sweep the board...As soon as Bailey beings the introduction the ear is aware that this is a live performance, for there is both electricity and warmth in the air...All in all this is an unforgettable performance.
