Notes & Reviews:
American Record Guide, July / August 2012
Listeners looking for a first or only recording of the St John Passion will probably want to stick with the "standard" version. Masaaki Suzuki and the Bach Collegium Japan (BIS 921; Sept/Oct 1999) present the 1749 version but with the three arias written for 1725 as an appendix. Peter Kooij's performance of 'Himmel, Reisse' alone is almost worth the price of admission.
Recording information: Nederlands Hervormde Kerk, Rhoon (10/2007).
