Album Notes

If you're not aware of Laughing Hyena Records, it's probably because you don't drive a truck. Save a couple "where are they now?"-type artists (Bruce "Babyman" Baum and the Unknown Comic, for instance), the label made its name selling prank phone calls, blue-collar humor, and straight-up trucker comedy at truck stops across America. That explains why the "F bomb" and many other cuss words are uttered on this set of Wacky Family Humor, which isn't wacky humor for families but ribald rednecks (their term) who bitch about car trips, Christmas, and why dads always decide to whup their kids at K-Mart on Sundays. Speaking of the Unknown Comic, names like Mike Marino, Monty Hoffman, Jonas Garvin, and Dobie Maxwell appear on the otherwise blank track list, and while you'd laugh heartily if these were the folks and jokes you encountered on open-mike night, the packaging and iffy title are a bummer. That said, there's a lot worse stuff you can pick up at a truck stop, and in the CD section too. ~ David Jeffries
