Notes & Reviews:
International award-winning octet Voces8 has established itself as the foremost young British a cappella vocal group. Performing a repertoire ranging from Renaissance polyphony to unique jazz and pop arrangements, the group has been praised for stunning performance, exquisite singing and creating a sound that spans the entire range of vocal color. 'A Choral Tapestry' explores the rich vocal timbres of sacred vocal music spanning five centuries. Interweaving genres create an ethereal sonic tapestry that centers on the haunting beauty of William Byrd's Mass for Four Voices. The program includes anthems and motets from the English Chapel Royal, the Sistine Chapel in Rome and St. Thomas' Church, Leipzig
"The slickest of the lottwo parts King's Singers, three parts Swingle Singers, a dash of Bobby McFerrinn and California sunshinefans of a cappella ought to hear this, not just for the singing but the production values and Jim Clements audacious arrangements." -BBC
American Record Guide, July / August 2012
If you haven't heard these marvelous singers, I urge you to give this one a try. You may well have never heard intricate polyphony or complex harmonic structures quite so precisely delineated as they are here, in a collectively cool and transparent overall vocal context; still, they are capable of more full-throated sonorities at need. Their technical and interpretive qualities leave nothing to be desired. We choral nuts thus have yet another fabulous English vocal ensemble to keep track of, amid Britain's embarrassment of top-tier choirs. Sound quality is faultless, and the interesting multi-fold booklet that doubles as a group poster wraps up a package you won't regret investing in.
