Notes & Reviews:
Maurice Duruflé (1902 - 1986), alongside Saint-Saëns and Fauré, is one of the 20th century's most striking composers of sacred music. His Requiem, a splendid contrast of melodies and Gregorian structures, is seductive by its richness, its sparkling style, and its harmonic refinement. Here, vocal ensemble Les Eléments and organist Michel Bouvard present the organ version of the famous Requiem. This contemplative version, intended for the expression of faith and meditation, is like a counterpoint of the orchestral version, intended for the room organ and for concerts. The sumptuous Puget organ of Notre Dame du Taur in Toulouse gives us the warm colors of the instrument, which combine with the voices to form a dynamic and stunning recording.
