Pianist Matthew Hill performs selection of works united by the idea expressed by Messiaen in his verbal preface to Regard du silence, where he describes the silences that reveal the mysteries of the infant Christ as "sounds and colors." The CD includes pieces by Liszt, Debussy, Messiaen and Gershwin. Produced and engineered by Sergei Kvitko and recorded at Blue Griffin's Studio The Ballroom.

The Gershwin Songs ('Liza', 'Embraceable You', 'I Got Rhythm') are heard in the arrangements of Earl Wild. They are well performed and have considerable style, but the major competition comes from Wild himself. Three sections from Messiaen's vast piano canvas have always eluded me and continue to do so, though they do have their moments.
