Astor Piazzolla: Maria de Buenos Aires / A Tango Operita in 16 Scenes

Album Summary

>Piazzolla, Astor : Maria de Buenos Aires, operetta
Performers Ensemble Composer

Notes & Reviews:

Astor Piazzolla and the Uruguayan writer Horacio Ferrer first met in Buenos Aires in the 1950s - the idea for a musical homage developed from their mutual passion for tango. Ferrer wrote the libretto to María de Buenos Aires. When Astor Piazzolla set this "tango operíta" to music he typically ignored genre limitations and treated the surrealistic libretto to a kaleidoscope-like journey through theatre and music history. The performers on this outstanding complete recording are the mezzo-soprano Mariana Rewerski and the ensemble "triade", who perform Astor Piazzolla's music with the necessary "feel" for tango.
