Album Summary
Performers
Tianwa Yang (Violin)
Markus Hadulla (Piano)
Notes & Reviews:
Tianwa Yang's admired and revelatory Sarasate series continues with a volume of captivatingly melodic compositions. Given Sarasate's prodigious status in the violin pantheon, technical demands on the performer are often - but not universally - constant. But so too is his unfailing gift for lyricism, whether in the elegant Boléro, the balletic Sérénade andalouse or the arialike Rêverie. The dazzling bowing difficulties in the Fantaisie-Caprice are thrilling, and so are the bird call harmonics of Los pájaros de Chile, written during a South American tour and only very recently published. In concert and recital Tianwa Yang is winning unprecedented international reviews as she takes the stage as one of the most impressive young violinists of today. International symphonic débuts have taken her to the United States, Europe, Singapore, Taiwan and China. In recital she has performed at the Berlin Philharmonic Hall, and the Wigmore Hall, London.
David's Review Corner
The disc comes to a rather sad ending with an outpouring of grief in Les adieux. Yang... is a quite remarkable young violinist. Certainly she could not wish for a more responsive partner, the young German, Markus Hadulla, ever attentive to her every inflection, adding weight and his own sparkling dexterity when required. First class sound and good program notes.
BBC Music Magazine
Yang throws off merciless chains of double stops and finger-crippling arabesques with scintillating aplomb. She produces astonishingly clean harmonics - whether natural or forced - and high-wire acrobatics (in emulation of birdsong) in Los pajaros de Chile. Her confident rendering of this delightful piece seems all the more remarkable given it was only recently published.
Gramophone Magazine
Her gifts are ideally suited to such a task with her flawless intonation, not least in the many passages involving high harmonics in the most extreme register. She is also brilliant in giving the many Spanish dance rhythms a winning lilt, so that this essentially trivial music is presented full of charm. One simply marvels and enjoys.
