Notes & Reviews:

The works on this first volume of the complete piano works of Mieczyslaw Weinberg range from very early yet characterful to the at times dissonant and the more classically oriented. Allison Brewster Franzetti: 2008 Grammy® Nominee for Best Instrumental Soloist without Orchestra for 20th Century Piano Sonatas on Naxos Records, Allison Brewster Franzetti has received international acclaim from critics and audiences alike for stunning virtuosity and musicality. "Franzetti is a persuasive advocate throughout" - Gramophone Magazine

American Record Guide, July / August 2012
The Sonata Op. 49b is a revision and expansion from 1978 of a sonatina he wrote in 1950-51. It is dedicated to Shostakovich and shares a lot of the same language, but the themes and their development are already more confident, less self-conscious. II is an especially yearning waltz with a heartbreaking melody in the middle. III isn't quite all it could be, but I enjoyed the sonata overall the most, for its maturity.
