Notes & Reviews:

As a successor project to the double CD of the Nocturnes, Amir Katz has recorded 4 Ballades and 4 Impromptus at the Teldex Studios in Berlin. "Unlike many pianists, Katz trusts the natural flow of the music. With a wonderful leggiero he forms the F-sharp major Impromptu, finding a magnificent balance of the two hands in the A-flat major Ballade before the narrative stream appears to carry him away without his seeming to have done anything." - Klaus Kalchschmid, Süddeutschen Zeitung

American Record Guide, July / August 2012
His treatment of the Ballades in particular draws attention to their inner structure and a sense of large sweeping phrases. The tempestuous inner section of the second Ballade, for instance, is treated almost as a single phrase, roaring by in one big breath. This is indeed Chopin worth hearing, both intellectually grounded and emotionally charged.
