Notes & Reviews:

This new release on the Genuin label is the introduction to a 4 CD Blüthner-Debussy collection. Praised by the critics for her fiery temperament, exceptional charisma and great command of her instrument in the romantic and modern repertoires, Brazilian-born pianist Juliana Steinbach is considered as one of the most gifted artists of the young generation.

Fanfare Magazine - Lynn René Bayley
In the liner notes, it is mentioned that Debussy discovered the Blüthner boudoir grand piano that became his constant instrument in 1905, while composing Images I, and on the back of the CD cover is the logo for Blüthner pianos. I had to do some digging online, however, to discover that Steinbach is an exclusive Blüthner pianist, but no, she is not necessarily playing Debussy's own instrument. Very highly recommended.

American Record Guide, July / August 2012
Her Debussy choices for Volume 1 of a projected complete set span 20 years of Debussy's compositional life, 1890-1910. The Suite Bergamasque, 'Valse Romantique', 'ROverie', and Mazurka are the earliest works here, followed by Pour le Piano and the two Series of Images. The melancholy 'Plus que Lente' finishes off a masterly Debussy recital. From Debussy's best-known piece, 'Claire de Lune', to the shimmering cascades of water in 'Reflets dans l'Eau', to the darting colorful goldfish in 'Poissons d'Or', Steinbach's sensitivity and phrasing are impeccable. Her technique is without a weakness. This is a stellar beginning release, especially when you add in an excellent essay by noted Debussy specialist Roy Howat and the beautiful piano sound the engineers give us. I love this music and will be quite pleased to follow this series to its completion.
