Notes & Reviews:

Import Hybrid-SACD pressing.

Praetorius is the composer of one of the most expansive, multifaceted and innovative repertoires of the 17th century. His large-scale sacred concertos that are part of his late work have only rarely been performed and have thus mostly remained in oblivion. This selection of vocal works reconstructs a service of Vespers on the eve of St. Michael's Day and for the 1st time these works are sung in their intended form, namely with male choristers only.

American Record Guide, July / August 2012
This is gorgeous music. The polychoral music might just blow your hair back. The trombones and cornetts together have a massive sound, but they are also capable of breathtaking subtlety - the cornetts in particular. The viols get some lovely solo passages, too, so that sometimes it sounds like music for viol consort.
