Ensemble Composer

Notes & Reviews:

Roentgen was a fine pianist and violist in his own right and composed countless chamber works for piano and strings. Roentgen's compositions for large and small wind ensembles form a small minority within his enormous oeuvre, but the works presented here are among his chamber highlights. The Linos Ensemble has been performing together for over thirty years and has been ranked as one of the world champions by the Berlin Press after their performance at the Berlin Festival.

American Record Guide, July / August 2012
Nevertheless, the performances of Roentgen's serenades by the Linos Ensemble demonstrate that they have considerable originality and finesse. The music is enjoyable, if a bit long-winded. For people who didn't know anything by Roentgen or hadn't heard any of his music, this would be a good start.
