Notes & Reviews:

Schumann's Piano Trios are enriched with audacious novelties and unusual content, providing a privileged way of entering into his complex, poetic world. These complete works are brilliantly introduced by Luigia Mossini, and are accompanied by the unpublished Sechs Stücke in kanonischer Form op.56. These works are arranged by Theodor Kirchner, (1823-1903), a coeval composer who was fervently close to Schumann's musical world and who also transcribed a number of his Lieder. Recorded at the end of 2010 at the Teatro Valli in Reggio Emilia, this double CD attests to the admirable interpretation by the Trio di Parma on Schumann's oeuvre in honor of the German composer's Bicentennial, following an intense season of concert tours.

American Record Guide, July / August 2012
I will admit it took a fair number of hearings before I was able to abandon the suspicion that these were works chronicling a dwindling inspiration or tragically decaying genius. I now find them to be intensely concentrated works of innovative polyphony and thematic interrelatedness both in and across the different movements. Moreover, the trios show the effects of Schumann's increased interest in counterpoint; he and Clara began an intense study of it in 1845. Careful listening to these works reveals passages of canon and fugue carefully blended, almost to the point of disguise, into the unified character of the music.
