Notes & Reviews:
Camerata's series of reissues of Edith Picht-Axenfeld's performances continues with its second volume of Bach Toccatas.
Fanfare Magazine
Quite sparkling and had a wonderful "flow" ... and I'm happy to report that this recording of the toccatas is equally excellent. Well recommended.
American Record Guide, July / August 2012
Edith Picht-Axenfeld (1914-2001) was a pianist and harpsichordist who had at her command a large and varied repertory that ranged from baroque to 20th Century music. She counted among her teachers Rudolf Serkin and Albert Schweitzer. Like Wanda Landowska her background was the romantic piano tradition, yet she achieved mastery in harpsichord as well. Unlike Landowska, Picht-Axenfeld continued to perform on both instruments all through her career. Her playing style emphasizes simplicity, eloquence, and directness of expression; and she makes judicious use of rhythmic freedom. Liner notes are in Japanese.
