Ensemble ComposersNotes & Reviews:
All of these works begin with very little: a note or two, something not far removed from silence, a seed that gives rise to an entire world of consonance and dissonance, monologue and dialogue (and trialogue), growth and retrenchment, height and depth. All were written by musicians from different parts of what used to be the Soviet Union: Knaifel and Paiberdin are Russian, Gubaidulina also (though of Tatar heritage), and Kancheli is Georgian. The Goeyvaerts Trio worked extensively with all of these composers personally, and the result comes near to perfection!
American Record Guide, November/December 2012
The Gubaidulina is the only one I'd go back to, and that would probably be just to refresh my memory on what her music is like. But if the program interests you, it is very solidly played, and the sound is quite good. Notes in English, with Russian texts and English translations of the poems.
