Mahler: Symphony No. 2 / Nes, Margiono, Haitink

Album Summary

>Mahler, Gustav : Symphony no 2 in C minor "Resurrection"
Conductor Ensemble Composer

Notes & Reviews:

The anniversary of the destruction of Dresden was annually marked with the performance of a requiem, until February 13, 1995. For the 50th anniversary of that terrible day, conductor Bernard Haitink presented Gustav Mahler's Second Symphony "Resurrection" - in the conviction that it is perhaps the only work in the symphonic repertoire that might do justice to the spirit of the day. In this, the live recording, the listener can sense something of the special atmosphere prevailing at that concert.

American Record Guide, November/December 2012
The Profil sound is excellent - as good if not better than the SACD sound from Chicago. While I can't call this a bad recording - there are some virtues - it's not one I'm likely to listen to again.
