Notes & Reviews:
Mily Alexeyevich Balakirev (1837 - 1910) was an outstanding Russian musician, pianist, conductor, and composer. Some of the most remarkable events in Russian music culture of the second half of the 19th century are linked with his name. Balakirev' s compositions for symphony orchestra, in which the musical and aesthetic principles inherited from Mikhail Glinka and Alexander Dargomyzhsky found their development, take a central place in his creative work. This program brings together seven symphonic works in chronological order, all performed by the outstanding Evgeny Svetlanov and the USSR State Academic Symphony Orchestra.
