Notes & Reviews:

Virgin Classics presents Rediscorvieries - a brand new series devoted to the finest classical recordings that are no longer in print. The first edition is the rare 1964 vinyl release of Nikolaus Narnoncourt conducting Viennese baroque music that was frequently heard in the court of Leopold I in Vienna in the late XVIIth century. Remastered for enhanced listening quality, this rare recording is being released for the first time ever in the United States the original vinyl was never released internationally. Leopold I, musician and patron of the greatest musicians, enriched the court's musical life by employing and providing support for distinguished composers such as Johann Fux and Johann Henirich Schmelzer. Fux's and Schmelzer's compositions are featured in this recording as well as several of Leopold's own works.
