Reger: Violin Sonatas Opp. 4 & 41; Albumblatt; Romanze / Ulf Wallin, violin; Roland Pontinen, piano

Notes & Reviews:

Apart from the opera and the symphony, Max Reger made substantial contributions to almost every musical genre, and within chamber music his compositions for violin and piano formed the largest complex. These works are technically and musically demanding and, for one reason or another are rarely ever heard in the concert hall.

American Record Guide, September / October 2012
Wallin and P÷ntinen have spent the last ten years recording several volumes of Reger's violin and piano music for CPO (the seven additional sonatas and three suites - see our index). The quality of the playing here is so high that I imagine the other Reger violin and piano recordings would be well worth hearing.

Wallin expounds all this music with total sympathy and a fine sense of style; Pontinen is an impeccable partner in his ability to make the often complex piano parts sound crystal clear and poetic. It makes an admirable introduction to Reger's chamber music.
