Notes & Reviews:

The Calefax Reed Ensemble is not your normal woodwind group - bassoon, oboe, clarinet, bass clarinet and saxophone. With this being the case almost all of their performances involve transcriptions and arrangements done especially for them. This unconventional outlook extends to things like the liner notes - "Ravel was underweight during World War I so he became an ambulance driver, were he got frostbite and lost several toes." Plus look for a rare photo of Debussy playing the bass clarinet. The music of Ravel and Debussy was earth shattering at the time it was composed.
