This hybrid multichannel SACD from Praga features a collection of 'Rococo' variations for cello and piano. In works that span several centuries, cellist Jeremy Findlay is featured in a program of works rich with virtuosity, humor and inventiveness. Two variations by Beethoven based on themes by Mozart are juxtaposed against works by modern composers Jirí Gemrot and Bohuslav Martinu based on themes by Beethoven, Dvorák and Rossini. Findlay is ably accompanied by pianist Per Rundberg in a disc that will appeal to any fan of cello music.
