Notes & Reviews:

MusicWeb International, December 2012
Martin Jones and his accompanying colleagues also obviously have a high regard for his music and that comes out in sparklingly brilliant performances.

American Record Guide, September/October 2013
It's enough to make you laugh, and good-natured humor is what this music is all about. It's hard not to love the sounds, rhythms, and joyful shenanigans of what is contained here. All of this music unfolds in groupings of brief pieces. Even his sonata consists of four movements that take less than ten minutes to perform. Assorted titles such as 15 portraits d'enfants d'Auguste Renoir, Napoleon, La Promenade d'un Musicologue Eclectique and 8 Dances Exotiques make the head spin with their imaginative use of cross rhythms, naughty or saucy tunes, and occasional jazz elements. Just when you think you have heard everything, 'Le Marseillaise' or 'Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star' creeps into the mixture in a most sophisticated way. The craftsmanship is high, and there is none of the cheap shots. There is also a definite lightness to this music. It's all so genuinely and naturally accomplished. Several sets sound almost simplistic. Napoleon, based on his film score, is, for example, straight-laced, has a series of very direct marches, and seems appropriate for the times it depicts. Scuola di Ballo is based on Boccherini themes and seems worlds apart from his excursions into the Samba, Mambo, and Rock n' Roll. Musicologue Eclectique pays homage to Handel, Chopin, Scarlatti, Ravel, and Adolphe Adam in ways you could never imagine. Jones and his colleagues play as if this music is part of their blood, with every bit of vivid color squeezed from the pages of the scores. The notes by Paul Conway are an impressive.
