Notes & Reviews:

The recording of Sadko featured on these three discs is archival, and historic. Its special value comes from the fact that it is one of the best recordings put on tape by outstanding music director Boris Pokrovsky, who realized it for the USSR Bolshoi Theatre in 1949. For this recording, the director, conductor, art directors, and main performers were awarded the Stalin Prize of the First Degree. At that time, it was one of the most honorable decorations, later given the same status as the USSR State Prize.
