Album Summary
Marcello Di Lisa (Harpsichord)
Gabriele Cassone (Trumpet)
Notes & Reviews:
Scarlatti's secular vocal music is more extensive than his sacred repertoire and occupies an enormous space within his overall oeuvre. It is in this substantial category including his dramatic works and madrigals that we also find his chamber cantatas. The 3 cantatas heard here all treat the subject of the forsake male lover or the female beloved left for another - a theme recurring throughout Western literature from antiquity to the lyric poetry of the seventeenth century.
American Record Guide, November/December 2012
Lovely sound, full texts with translations, plus unusually extensive notes in the booklet. This is a major contribution to the growing discography of Scarlatti. But one wonders, given the short running time, why at least one more cantata could not have been added.
Gramophone Magazine, October 2012
Fernandez occasionally pushes harshly when striving to maintain correct intonation but otherwise the spirit of Concerto de' Cavalieri's performances feel spot-on.
