Notes & Reviews:

This is the first recording on the newly restored E. M. Skinner organ of Rockefeller Chapel at the University of Chicago, featuring several world premiere recordings (Tracks 8-13). This was written for and dedicated to Douglas Cleveland.

American Record Guide, November/December 2012
David Briggs may be remembered as a long-time organist at Gloucester Cathedral. His programs often conclude with a Frenchstyle improvisation. His efforts transcribing Cochereau tapes no doubt influenced his own harmonic vocabulary. We hear a trace of that in his Concert Etudes, four challenging pieces for hands and feet. While the 'Octaves' Etude smacks a good deal of Demessieux's, the concluding 'Tierces' contains devilish technical nightmares including trills and fast chromatic passages in the Pedal. I have a feeling some of these Etudes will begin appearing in recitals - by the adventuresome. Fine performance by Cleveland (the dedicatee).
