Notes & Reviews:
Johannes Brahms is one of the 19th century's great composers of choral music. The individual pieces of his Liebeslieder-Walzer constitute a kind of kaleidoscope on the subject of love, though without there being any continuity of plot. Heartache and joy, ironic sentimentality and deep feeling, personal retreat as well as social aspects, and last but not least the melancholy of the odd one out are all thrown together in these poems set by Brahms. In this recording the singers are the Gächinger Kantorei under the direction of their widely-known founder Helmuth Rilling.
