Notes & Reviews:

Little is known about Dulichius' musical training. He attended the Universities of Leipzig and Wittenberg. In 1587 he became music director at Fürstliches Pädagogium in Stettin, a post he would hold until his death. He was also responsible for the cultivation of music at the court of the Dukes of Pomerania and in St. Mary's Church in Stettin. Dulichius composed 232 finely crafted and tonally beautiful motets. During his lifetime they circulated Europe, but today they are hardly known at all.

American Record Guide, November/December 2012
Weser-Renaissance offers us here a sample of motets from a very large repertory composed by Philipp Dulichius (1562-1631). Dulichius (Deulich) spent almost his entire career, from the age of 25, as music director at the church of St Mary in Stettin. His writing is lush, calling for no fewer than five voices and often as many as eight. It is when he uses them in nearly chordal settings, along with string and wind instruments, that his music most clearly reflects the taste for Venetian-style choral music in his time. His motets will remind one of works by other German composers, namely Michael Praetorius and Heinrich Schntz. His music sounds gorgeous, and this performance has every bit of the polish I've come to expect of Weser-Renaissance. Texts and notes are in English.
