Abbado termed Genova and Dimitrov "THE piano duo of the young generation" and the two have indeed come to be regarded as one of today's most sought-after piano duos worldwide. On their latest CD, dedicated to their teacher Krainev, who died in 2011, they interpret suites by Arensky. Even though Arensky, who died at a young 45, never managed to control his self-destructive passions, he enjoyed enormous renown as a composer during his lifetime.

Genova and Dimitrov are quite brilliant and fully the equal of the others. They don't have quite the finesse of Lavrova-Primakov, but play in generally quicker tempos. Their ensemble is spot on, and I am happy to have the additional suite. Booklet notes are thorough, if awkwardly (sometimes comically) translated from the original German. It would be hard to choose the best disc of the three I am fortunate to have. For completeness I'd probably go with this recording first, followed closely by Lavrova-Primakov.

I feel gypped

Nowhere in the on-line description of this recording does it tell us that these "two piano" compositions have been reduced to "one piano, 4 hands" in this recording. To quote from the accompanying booklet: "This recording offers ... Five Suites for Two Pianos, here united on one instrument." Nowhere else is this information shown on the CD label or on the hbdirect site. One piano, four hands, can't produce the same sonority as two pianos.
