Friedrich Gernsheim: Violin Sonatas nos 1-4; Andante (1853); Fantasiestuck, Op. 33 et al. / Stefan Kirpal, violin; Andreas Kirpal, piano

Notes & Reviews:

The music of German composer, conductor, performer, and musical director Friedrich Gernsheim has gone largely unknown despite its great merit. Though his compositions display intelligence, discipline, and complexity rivaling contemporaries like Saint-Saens and Bruch, as well as Gernsheim's friend and inspiration Brahms, his music fell out of fashion with the avant-garde surge that occurred after his death. The duo of brothers Stefan and Andreas Kirpal sweetly illuminate Gernsheim's works for violin and piano, the composer's own instruments, with finesse and polish. A first and captivating look.

American Record Guide, January/February 2013
I am very grateful to the brothers Kirpal for their dedication to Gernsheim and for their wonderful playing.
