Conductor Ensemble ComposerNotes & Reviews:
This Eroica, from the 1952-1953 season, was recorded from concerts and originally released on Tahra on CD in 2003. The recording was made during a period when Wilhelm Furtwängler was in Vienna specifically to record a series of Beethoven symphonies for EMI with the Vienna Philharmonic in the Muiskvereinssaal. During this recording session, Furtwängler gave two concerts on 29 and 30 November, the second one's being recorded by ORF in excellent sound. This new disc reissues the Eroica, carefully remastered for SACD from the original analog tapes.
American Record Guide, November/December 2012
So, three Eroicas, rather different from each other, but each with a strong, consistent viewpoint.
Recording information: Musikvereinssaal de Vienne (11/30/1952).
