Warren Gooch's Clockwork is a bright piece for orchestra filled with repeated eighth-note patterns. The ascending figures are passed through the orchestra and given different accompaniment to keep them fresh. Because of its structure it does not hold up as well on hearing it a second time as Rain Worthington's Of Time Remembered. With its continually devious harmonic language and sweeping strings, Of Time Remembered inhabits a sonic realm that immediately conjures thoughts of Halloween and wonder. Paula Diehl's Meeting Places is disjointed, blocky, and uninteresting. A simple motive from a solo instrument is surrounded by ensemble chords on either side, with solo duty gradually shifting.
