Notes & Reviews:

This new release featuring Charles Koechlin's works for ensembles negates the absence of his repertoire in the Timpani catalogue. Two of these pieces, Sonate à sept and Two Sonatinas are world premiere recordings, which both call for a unique collaboration between the harpsichord and oboe. Presented for the second time, are the Initium and Contraste ensembles, which previously joined together for a well received double disc dedicated to Onslow. Both ensembles are active in the music scene, particularly at the Deauville festival and at the Palazzetto Bru Zane in Venice.

American Record Guide, January/February 2013
Koechlin was curiously effective combining fiercely intellectual technical ability with approachable melodic content in the best French manner. The general musical language of these works for chamber groups is quite tonal, like a gutsier FaurT. The elegant melodies are sometimes wayward, but listeners won't get lost. Chordal passages often use parallel motion like Debussy's Engulfed Cathedral.
