Notes & Reviews:

Tobias Frank takes on two monumental organ symphonies by French composers Charles-Marie Widor and Louis Vierne in this new release, selecting the genre bookends of the Widor Symphony No. 5 and the Vierne No. 6. Each piece exploits the ranges of the grandiose organ at St-Matthias-Kirche in Berlin, a cathedral organ with the French character that the composers would have heard when creating these works.

American Record Guide, January/February 2013
Frank studied church music and theater at the Hochschule, Munich. Musical studies were continued with David Briggs, Jane Parker- Smith, and Christian Heiss. He is currently cantor at St Johannis in Neubrandenburg. This program was recorded in St Matthias, Berlin- Schoneberg; the organ is a 4-121 Seifert (1974). My review of an earlier recording of DuprT and Jongen by Frank (J/A 2009) voiced strong approval for his interpretations. The same thoughts apply here. His tempos and registrations are acceptably mainstream, close to the timings and styles of veteran organists. The instrument offers all the power one could want, and spacious acoustics add to the aesthetic pleasure. Frank plays with the confidence of a pro, and that security earns this high marks.
