Notes & Reviews:

On his first solo album, Neomonology, double bass hero Jeffrey Weisner leaves well-traveled musical paths behind, fearlessly tackling three profound and substantial new pieces for him and his notoriously bulky instrument. The result is an evocative journey beyond the event horizon of the double bass, at once strange and resonant.

American Record Guide, January/February 2013
Having listened to full-length releases of only hand cymbals in sand or only snare drums or, even more limiting, only gongs, a release dedicated to solo upright bass performances seemed far more approachable, melodic, and perhaps just as enlightening about new performance techniques. Jeffrey Weisner performs in several styles, using his instrument to convey a bevy of emotion through standard and extended techniques. Armando Bayolo's Mixtape is filled with pop sensibilities and progressions, with source material ranging from the 1960s to the 1990s. 'Turn Around' is a melancholy meditation evoking Total Eclipse of the Heart. The piece is so serious it borders on humorous, but the performance is so believable you would feel ashamed if another audience member heard you chuckle.
