Eminent Bach scholar Christoph Wolff wrote the liner notes for this superb release. Koopman and Manson are acutely aware of this precarious balance, and their awareness comes through clearly in performance. This is one of those rare recordings that captures all the power and excitement of a concert performance. And Koopman and Manson engage one another with a playfulness and amiability that gives them both space to make Bach's music dance.
