Notes & Reviews:

It may seem unimaginable to audiences of postwar generations that Dresden opera lovers had to wait four years after 1945 for a performance of a stage work by Wagner due to negative associations with the Third Reich. These excerpts from radio broadcasts of the first Wagner productions after 1945 capture great singers of the era in a truly historic setting.

American Record Guide, January/February 2013
I wish I could discuss all the 27 selections included here in detail. They show us music in Dresden in the early stages of its reconstruction. Today, the city has been restored to its original form. If you visit online the site semperoper. de you will see immediately a color photo of the opera house in all its architectural splendor, accompanied by views of its interior spaces. It may be the world's most beautiful opera house. It seems to me that the real heroes here are the city of Dresden itself and all the inhabitants who have contributed to its musical life since its great orchestra was founded in 1548.
