Notes & Reviews:

Treasures is a new series of 3-CD sets drawn from the catalogs of Virgin Classics, presenting the best loved and key works of the classical repertoire at a very attractive price. The first batch of this series is composed of 5 releases, including a selection of Mozart's most popular works such as Don Giovanni and The "Jupiter" Symphony; Piano classics including the "Moonlight" Sonata and Clair de Lune; Russian favorites such as Scheherazade and The Rite of Spring, Baroque masterpieces like The Four Seasons and Pachelbel's Canon in D; and celebrated Sacred Works such as Vespers and Verdi's Requiem. All of these timeless masterpieces are performed by world-class performers including Natalie Dessay, Yehudi Menuhin, Mikhail Pletnev, Riccardo Muti, and André Previn. The Treasures series provides a wide overview of the "must haves" in each of these popular genres.

Reviews

What!--No HAYDN???
Not including HAYDN in a collection of sacred music is a serious blunder, since HAYDN is worth more than Gounod, Franck, Faure and Durufle put together. Because of such an omission I cannot recommend this collection, even though it has much that is really good, and even outstanding.
