Paul Moravec: Northern Lights Electric - Clarinet Concerto; Cello Concerto; Sempre Diritto! / David Krakauer, clarinet, Matt Haimovitz, cello

Notes & Reviews:

In Paul Moravec's Northern Lights Electric, BMOP/sound presents a selection of works inspired by the composer's travels: from Catalonia, where a statue of Pablo Casals sits adjacent to a mountaintop monastery (Montserrat: Concerto for Cello and Orchestra, with soloist Matt Haimovitz), to Venice, where the complex roads and canals practically wrote themselves into the winding, morphing piece, Sempre Diritto! This SACD also includes a work written for featured clarinetist David Krakauer (Clarinet Concerto), as well as the ethereal Northern Lights Electric, inspired by a first-time viewing of the aurora borealis on a quiet New Hampshire night. BMOP musicians and soloists, led by Gil Rose, present outstanding performances on this disc.
