The organ at St. Edmundsbury Cathedral was built in 2010. It has four manuals and 59 speaking stops, with more than 3,500 pipes. The program chosen by the two organists for this recording show this new organ in all its glory.

This is a decidedly English organ, right down to the potent 8' Tuba. Humphreys plays the English compositions. Thomas - who studied with Louis Thiry - seems the logical organist for the French selections. Both gentlemen play intelligently and with musical understanding. Noteworthy interpretations include the pieces by Darke and Howells, Messiaen and Ducasse. The latter is quite difficult and requires planning ahead to convey the growing crescendo in volume and manual activity.
