Notes & Reviews:

The purpose of the Telemann Festival Days of Magdeburg is for international artists to perform works by Telemann including full-length, magnificent compositions such as operas, oratorios, passions, and cantatas. The cantatas heard on this new CD were recorded during a concert held at the next-to-last festival days. This is highly gripping and brilliant music!

International Record Review, February 2013
The two male solo singers...are both very impressive in what is some very demanding music...The real star of the show, however, is obviously Telemann himself. The CPO label has served Magdeburg's greatest son very well over the years and this belated release of three exceptionally fine grand cantatas should raise his reputation even higher. Well worth owning.

American Record Guide, March / April 2013
Of the three, Weine Nicht! Siehe, es Hat Uberwunden der Lowe is a rousing Easter celebration. The framing choruses are enlivened by three trumpets and drums plus oboes. Sie Verachten das Gesetz des Herrn Zebaoth has framing choruses with two chorales alternating with lovely solo arias for soprano and alto. Gott Zebaoth in Deinem Namen" is an introspective work on poetry reflecting on the contrasting joys and sorrows of the world. The soloists, so many of them familiar collaborators with Max, are all excellent; and the conductor's usual high standards of performance are maintained here.
