After winning the gold medal at the 1998 Calgary International Organ Competition in Canada, Stefan Engels achieved international recognition. His performing and teaching engagements take him across Europe, the U.S. and South Korea. He is professor of organ at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Leipzig and the founder of the European Organ Academy and the Leipziger Karg-Elert Festtage.
