Album Summary
Ensemble ComposerNotes & Reviews:
Though not a household name today like contemporaries Mozart, Beethoven, and Haydn, Paul Wranitzky was nonetheless a leading figure in Vienna. His string trios, here in their world premiere recording, are composed in the Viennese classical style of great spirit, invention, and personality, performed with equal panache by Ensemble Cordia.
American Record Guide, March / April 2013
The Ensemble Cordia makes its home in the South Tyrol and seems to specialize in neglected 18th Century music. Cellist Stefano Veggeti and violist Stefano Marocchi are regular members of the ensemble, and the violinist, Stanley Ritchie, seems to be a special guest for this recording. The viola and cello sounds are still has one of the greatest bow arms around, so his sound is brilliant without the need of a constant vibrato. He is tasteful and meticulous, as well as expressive and extremely smart.
